“Broke Ain’t a Vibe: Surviving Today’s Economy Without Losing Your Mind”

Welcome to Uptown Tea, where we keep it real and raw about life, culture, and the stuff nobody talks about but everyone feels. I’m Nova Rayne, and today we’re kicking off this journey with something almost everyone is feeling: the struggle to survive in today’s economy.

If you’re tired, broke, stressed, or just trying to stay ahead of the rising economy, you’re not alone. This topic is for you.

Let’s get honest — prices are soaring. Rent, groceries, gas, utilities — everything’s up. But wages? Not so much. You work hard, sometimes multiple jobs, and it still feels like you’re barely keeping your head above water. And the pressure to ‘hustle harder’ or ‘be grateful’ feels tone-deaf when you’re physically exhausted and mentally drained. That’s the reality for millions, especially in communities like ours.

Here’s what’s really hitting us hard:

Inflation outpacing wages

The cost of living crisis hitting Black and brown neighborhoods hardest

The toll it takes on mental health and family life.

Burnout isn’t a weakness — it’s a natural response to chronic stress. If you’re feeling anxious, depressed, or just plain overwhelmed, that’s valid. Surviving in this economy means constant decision fatigue and emotional labor — trying to keep your kids fed, bills paid, and your sanity intact.

Here’s the truth: You deserve rest. You deserve support. And you’re not failing for needing both.

Here’s a framework I’ve been living by — and sharing with friends — to get through this season: Rethink. Reset. Rebuild.

Rethink: Look at your expenses and habits with fresh eyes. What can you cut or change without pain? And please be honest with yourself and let go of things that aren't necessary 😘.

Reset: Set realistic boundaries on your time and energy. Saying NO is a power move.

Rebuild: Take small, sustainable steps toward financial and emotional stability. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Some tools that help:

Budget apps like Mint or EveryDollar

Free community resources like food banks or utility assistance programs

Mental health hotlines and support groups.

Remember: surviving doesn’t mean giving up. There’s power in persistence and community. We’re building together, one step at a time.

Next Topic, we’re diving into a topic that’s close to my heart — The challenges families face getting help for special needs loved ones. Until then, take care of yourself. You deserve it. - Nova Rayne
